It never appears in any federation record. No statistics, no results, no archive photos. But ask someone who lived through northern English football in the 90s and something about Thornfield F.C. feels strangely familiar.
That was the feeling we wanted to capture when we designed the Heritage Jersey '94.
Football before it became a business
There was a time, not so long ago, when English football smelled of cigarettes, wet grass and concrete terraces. Shirt colours were often too loud, almost aggressive, as if the designer had decided to make up in colour what the club lacked in budget.
It was Third and Fourth Division football: the football that rarely made national television but still filled small grounds every other weekend. Towns that never appeared in tourist maps could still remember the exact score of a match played in February 1991.
Thornfield F.C. was born from that world: an industrial northern club with a burgundy and navy kit built around a geometric pattern that once looked modern and now looks perfect.
Why a retro football shirt matters
A retro English football shirt is not just a fashion trend. It is a piece of collective memory.
When you wear a 90s-style jersey, you are wearing a point of view: football before VAR, before global templates, before every sponsor and colour choice had to pass through a brand department.
The Thornfield F.C. Heritage Jersey '94 captures that exactly. The colours are bold, the pattern is brave, the oversized cut belongs to the era, and the all-over sublimation keeps the colour locked into the fabric.
Why fictional clubs work
Real clubs come with restrictions: licenses, committees, sponsors and design rules. A fictional club does not. Thornfield F.C. can have exactly the colours, typography and shirt language the story needs.
Most importantly, Thornfield F.C. does not belong to a corporation. It belongs to whoever wears it.
